This post, The Top 5 Characteristics of a True Leader was written because simply being an entrepreneur is not enough. To create a huge following a leader must be able to direct his energy and passion—hence leadership is required to attract and retain people.
So you may recall that I recently I did a post on the 5 levels of leadership, however, this post takes you to a different dimension, think of this as characteristics of a true leader, by definition, this means that even people without these things can exert influence and thus leadership.
1. True Leaders are Visionaries
True Leaders are insightful, they are visionaries, they have the wisdom to look at problems and find solutions. True Leaders really believe that they can make a difference. True leaders know where they are going—they have goals in place they begin with the end in mind.
True Leaders have their bases covered and are prepared for any problems that they may encounter along the way.
A perfect example of a True Leader is Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, was born of The Virgin Mary, performed many miracles, founded the Church, died by crucifixion as a sacrifice to God so that human beings can be forgiven or pardoned of sin, he rose from the dead, ascended into Heaven, and will later return.
2. True Leaders Demonstrate Initiative
True Leaders don’t sit on the sidelines they lead by example and are not afraid to go first. True Leaders don’t ask others to do what they themselves are not willing to do. Rather, they take initiative knowing that they will instill confidence in their followers. This kind of dedication is also a way of building trust with their followers.
3. True Leaders Are Influencers
Real Leaders are influencers, therefore, there’s no coincidence that influence and influenza come from the same root word.
True Leaders have an ability that very few people have. Real Leader’s are capable of swaying others to his or her point of view. They have the ability to persuade others effortlessly. People are drawn to their vision and their values. They are able to gather a following and move people to act.
True Leaders are Level 5 Leaders, Pinnacle Leaders. When others hear that they are involved others simply just want to get involved no questions asked.
True Leaders are go-getters meaning, they have a way of simply making others want to “go” where they are heading or “get” whatever that have to offer and once again Jesus Christ comes to mind, he simply had a way like no one else of making men drop what they were doing and follow him to spread love.
18 ¶And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.
21 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.
22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.
True Leaders are capable of changing the atmosphere, when they enter a room, they are like sunshine in dark places they are a breath of fresh air, they leave a bit of sparkle wherever they go.
4. True Leaders Are Impactful
The measure of leadership cannot be found in the leader himself but rather it’s found in the impact the leader has on his or her followers.
At the end of the day, True Leaders make a difference, they’re not just entertainers—they instrumental in creating lasting change.
True Leaders carry extraordinary impact. Examples of Impactful Leaders are, Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Missionary Mother Theresa, Spiritual and Political Leader Mahatma —these leaders are Pinnacle Leaders or Level 5 Leaders they made a huge impact on all of our lives.
5. True Leaders Are Trustworthy
Consider trustworthy as the basis when creating the structure for impactful leadership. With leadership comes power and power can reveal who a person truly is.
Leaders set the standards of excellence and serve as an example for others to follow, they also establish principles governing the way their followers should be treated and the way goals will be pursued.
Honesty is necessary for success, whether it’s leadership in business, ministry or politics. Great leaders lead with integrity, honesty, and values.
A True Leader must be trustworthy. Trust or the lack of trust becomes a major issue as it determines the level of a leader’s impact
In conclusion, True leaders when honest are able to get respect from their team of followers. It’s their honesty that allows them to lead successful lives and more importantly, to leave a legacy.
My hope that this postThe Top 5 Characteristics of a True Leader will be a guide to help you become a better leader.
